Acts 2: 1-21
“When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
The decision was made by the artists at Starr Gallery in Orleans Mass. to have the theme “Red” for our group show! The very next Sunday, I walked into Church and there was Red everywhere. It was Pentecost!
“OK, Lord”………. I get the message” My painting is going to be “The Spirit of Pentecost!”
We were just finishing up a 34 week Disciple Bible Study class under the leadership of our pastor, Rev. Elizabeth McClintock. The tragedy of 9/11 still heavy on our hearts!
The Gold descending doves in the background of this painting, I cut from paper, gold leafed them,and then asked the Bible Study Class if they would like to autograph the back of each one.
The class was delighted! Then the signed autographed doves were decoupaged into the background!
I posed my model in a Red Robe holding a red candle. The circles like coins are there to represent some iconic people of the Holy Spirit, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Mother Theresa, Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, Sojourner Truth, and the iconic recent image of the three firefighters hoisting the flag at Ground Zero!
The Holy Spirit lives and was present on 9/11/2001
